What would life be like if technology didn’t progress so fast?

When you really look back and think about it…the jump from when Instagram was only available to iPhone users, to now Meta glasses and these creepily advanced AI videos is wild. It’s like iRobot is coming to life right before our eyes but the only thing I can say is, “damn that’s crazy.”

Though I’m chronically online, I’m still very nostalgic and I hate it because it just leaves me yearning for “the old days.” Back when you only needed a press and curl, a little gloss, and eye-shadow to be cute.

I mostly get this feeling when I’m watching old 2000s music videos, which I do a lot. But it makes me feel like I was cheated out of the adulthood that I imagined. While I love the opportunities and access we have in this generation, it’s something about the simplicity of back then that I’m so drawn to. These days nothing is as it appears, people do too much, and everything feels like it has to be extraordinary.

Lately I’ve been thinking life would be better without so much technology. Now don’t get me wrong, I love technology but damn. I miss when the internet was in one central location—the computer room. With some many options, and so much connectivity, it has backfired to an empty feeling. I really be thinking we were never supposed to see this many people and it’s really throwing off the equilibrium in the world. It also plays a huge part into our happiness.

Think about how different life was 20 years ago. We were still buying CDs in the store . Not even that long ago, we had to text to send tweets and BBLs weren’t even a thing. Maybe this is a side effect of getting older…always thinking about “the good ole days.” Or is it just a result of us getting the short end of the stick when it came to be an adult.

What if at a certain point the world will start over? Remind me to not get student loans and to start saving for a house when I’m five..
